Sun Microsystems has released "Java Runtime Environment Version 6.0 Update 14".

For this release, support has been added for the following system configurations:

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2
  • Windows Vista with SP2

It also contains the new 10.4.2.1 version of Java DB. It does not contain any new fixes for security vulnerabilities to its previous release, 6.0 Update 13. Users who have 6.0 Update 13 have the latest security fixes and do not need to upgrade to this release to be current on security fixes. The Releases notes can be found here.

Most Novell administrators use J2RE on their Windows desktop because of web applications like NetStorage, iManager, VirtualOffice and Remote Manager.

First of all download and run jre-6u14-windows-i586.exe. This file, select 'Windows (Offline Installation), is available in the Download section of Sun's Java website.

The installation and customization was covered in "Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 9". You need to set a registry key to prevent an EULA dialog popping up when you start a Java applet for the first time:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6.0_14]
"EULA"=dword:00000001
