This article covers how to deploy Adobe Reader 8.0 with the new Adobe Customization Wizard 8. Adobe Technical Support provides support for the Adobe Customization Wizard for Acrobat 8.0 to create Microsoft Transform (MST) files to modify MSI files. Adobe Customization Wizard 8.x can also be used to create Transform files for Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional, Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard and Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Elements.

  • Download the latest Adobe Reader from the Adobe Download Page

  • The download, 1/2 MB in size, is 'AdbeRdr80_DLM_en_US.exe' which is NOT the full package. It's only a 'Download Manager'. After execution it downloads 'AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe' which is then executed automatically. After a succesful download 'AdbeRdr80_DLM_en_US.exe' will be deleted.

  • When the 'Welcome to Setup for Adobe Reader 8' screen pops up, switch to Windows Explorer and have a look in   C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Adobe Reader 8.0

Copy the 'Adobe Reader 8.0' directory (and therefore all files in it) to your deployment server. Switch back to the installer and click 'Cancel. Notice the 'AcroRead.msi' file which is the core MSI file which we will 'Tune' (make a Transform for) not in a generic Tuner like AdminStudio's Tuner, but with a product specific Tuner from Adobe called the 'Adobe Customization Wizard'.

  • Download the Adobe Customization Wizard 8 and install it on your workstation. If you look in the Start Menu, you will find a shortcut called 'Adobe Customization Wizard 8' to start the wizard.
